Essential Trip Information

Everything you need to know before visiting the ancient capital.

Planning Your Visit

Absolutely. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former capital of the Kingdom of Siam for over 400 years, Ayutthaya is one of Thailand’s most treasured destinations. While you can explore alone, a local guide is highly recommended to provide the context, legends, and hidden details that bring these ancient ruins to life.

Yes, it is the premier side trip from Bangkok. Located roughly 80 kilometers north of the capital, it takes about 1 to 2 hours to reach by road or train, making it a perfect full day excursion.

We recommend starting early, around 07:00 or 08:00 AM, to enjoy the cooler morning air and visit popular highlights like Wat Mahathat before the large tour buses arrive. Late afternoon is also a peak time for photography, especially during the golden hour at riverside temples.

As these are sacred ruins and active temples, shoulders and knees must be covered for both men and women. We recommend light, breathable clothing. If you are wearing shorts or a tank top, please bring a sarong or scarf to wrap around yourself before entering.

Transport & Logistics

There are three main ways to reach us:

  • Private Tour: The most comfortable option, with door to door private van or boat service.
  • Train: A scenic local experience from Bangkok’s stations (like Krung Thep Aphiwat) that takes 1.5 to 2 hours.
  • Public Van: Budget friendly transport departing from several Bangkok locations.

Our premium private boat tour starts at the SNB Marina in Nonthaburi (Bangkok). You will need to arrange your own transport (taxi or Grab) to the marina, where your private vessel will be waiting.

It depends on your priorities:

  • Van Tour: Faster and includes direct pick up from your Bangkok hotel, maximizing your time at the temple ruins.
  • Boat Tour: A premium, scenic river experience that offers beautiful views of rural Thailand but takes longer to reach Ayutthaya.

Costs, Food & Payments

There is no fee to enter the general Historical Park area, but major individual temples (such as Wat Mahathat) typically charge 50 THB per person for international visitors. These fees are paid directly at the gate and are not included in the tour price.

No, we exclude meals to give you maximum flexibility. Your guide will recommend local spots, ranging from famous Ayutthaya Boat Noodles to Michelin rated riverside restaurants, that fit your specific taste and budget.

Since we are a small team of independent guides, please submit an inquiry via our contact page first. To secure your booking, we require a small deposit via Stripe, with the remaining balance payable in cash (THB) directly to your guide on the morning of the tour.

Yes. You can choose a standard route or tell us your interests (history, photography, local life), and we will design a custom route that fits your pace.
